Internship

Overview

Kingsbury Companies is looking for students to fulfill our 12-week internship program during the summer months.  As an intern, you will gain experience in the construction management process of heavy-civil, water & waste water treatment and unique projects throughout Vermont, New Hampshire and New York.  You will participate in project start-up, safety policy implementation, site survey & layout, job cost analysis, purchasing, scheduling, subcontractor management, and estimating. A 10-hour OSHA training certificate will be provided to each intern.

Time Requirement

Start and end dates will coincide with the student’s school schedule.  Interns should expect to work a 5-day, 40-hour work week and more if additional time is needed.

Work Plan

Orientation and Field Work

Interns will be strategically introduced to the construction process.  Students will be introduced to the Kingsbury team at our main office in Middlesex, VT.   Interns will take this time to get familiar with the pre-construction process.  During this time, you will be assigned a project or projects in the field. Interns will work in the field under an experienced Superintendent where they will develop skills in project safety, survey & layout, site development, utility installation such as water, drainage, and sewer lines, and concrete work.

Contract Administration

Interns will learn by participation in the buy-out process, drafting purchase orders, track job costs, write subcontractor agreements and develop project schedules.

Estimating

Interns will develop estimating skills by participating in all aspects of the bidding process from project section through completion of the bid form.

Construction Safety

Interns will work directly with the KCOS safety manager to develop safety hazard analysis for various projects, conduct safety inspections and become familiar with OSHA standards for job site safety.

Mentor

Each intern will be assigned a mentor to advise them through the process and assist with any questions that arise on all work assignments.

Evaluation

At the conclusion of the season, each intern will be given a formal evaluation by their mentor and other members of the KCOS team.  Interns will receive constant feedback during their summer work period. The purpose of this final evaluation is to provide feedback for areas of success as well as potential growth areas.

Rate of Pay: $15.00 per hour
